Freestanding Gas Grills
A freestanding gas grill gives you the same premium cooking performance as a built-in model with the added flexibility of a self-contained cart. Whether you're not ready to commit to a full outdoor kitchen build, need to position your grill on a deck or patio where a permanent island isn't practical, or simply want the option to rearrange your outdoor space, a freestanding grill delivers serious capability without the construction.
Our freestanding grills come from the same manufacturers behind our built-in lineup — Summerset, Fire Magic, TrueFlame, American Made Grills, and WildFire. The grill heads are identical to their built-in counterparts, mounted on stainless steel carts with locking casters, side shelves, and enclosed storage below. You get the same burner output, the same #304 stainless steel construction, and the same manufacturer warranty coverage.
Cart Grills vs. Pedestal Grills
Most freestanding grills use a cart-style base with four wheels and one or two side shelves that fold down for storage. The enclosed cabinet underneath gives you space for a propane tank (if you're running LP), cleaning supplies, and accessories. Some models also offer a pedestal-style base with a smaller footprint, which is ideal for balconies, smaller patios, or anywhere space is tight.
Choosing Your Size
Freestanding grills follow the same sizing conventions as built-in models. A 32-inch grill is the sweet spot for most households — large enough for multi-zone cooking but compact enough to fit on a standard patio. Larger 36-inch and 40-inch models suit dedicated outdoor cooking areas where you have the room and want maximum grilling surface. The 25-inch class is perfect for condos, townhomes, and smaller outdoor spaces.
Making the Transition to Built-In
One of the smartest things about starting with a freestanding grill from a quality brand is that most cart-mounted grill heads can later be removed and dropped into a custom island when you're ready to build out a full outdoor kitchen. That means you're investing in the cooking performance today while keeping your options open for tomorrow.
